City Soul on the Move
WYXR’s got too much SOUL for one CITY! We’re bringing our sound to NYC next week with a handful of events for Memphis music lovers in the Big Apple.

– Up the road in Brooklyn’s Prospect Heights district, WYXR program manager Jared “Jay B.” Boyd (@jaredjaybboyd) is spinning an all-vinyl set, celebrating Memphis’ lesser-known funk, disco, and hip-hop at BierWax (@beirwax) (7PM-10PM)
Wednesday, July 12:
Celebrate the heritage of Memphis soul with an evening of free Bluff City music at Manhattan’s legendary Lincoln Center (@lincolncenter), presented by our friends at TuneIn (@tunein).
– Meet us in the David Rubenstein Atrium for a one-on-one fireside chat between Memphis soul music architect Booker T. Jones (@bookertjonesmusic) and Jared “Jay B.” Boyd (5PM)
– Hear Booker T., who released his seminal instrumental hit “Green Onions” along with his group The MG’s in 1962, play a torch-passing performance with an ensemble of students from the Stax Music Academy (@staxmusicacadmey). Guest DJs Greg Cartwright and Debbie Daughtry of Boss Radio 66 (@bossradio66) will lead the audience in a rockin’ dance party between sets. (7 p.m.)
We can’t wait to meet everyone in New York. Please help us by sharing our schedule with anyone you think can attend.
