A collection of ornate cast aluminum switch plates on a white background.

Cast Aluminum Switch Plate

Make a mold using oil-bonded sand and have a single light switch plate cast in aluminum. You can add decoration to the switch plate by sketching in the sand, putting leaves on the surface of the pattern, or by pressing toys into the sand. After the aluminum is poured, you will finish the pieces by cutting off the sprue, filing and sanding edges, drilling screw holes, sandblasting, and applying a patina to the surface. You will leave with one original switch plate.
