Birth of the Cool Jazz Night

Be fully immersed in a night of soul-stirring jazz music delivered by the world-class faculty of the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music Jazz Department, led by Dr. Jack Cooper.

The faculty’s expertise and artistry will be showcased through a specially curated concert that combines swinging classics and modern standards. For jazz lovers and music enthusiasts, this concert is a “can’t miss” occasion to witness the brilliance of the jazz tradition performed by an all-star group of musicians.

Faculty artists include:

  • Dr. Jack Cooper – saxes/woodwinds
  • Zack Corpus, tuba
  • Jeremiah Frederick, horn
  • Martin McCain, trombone
  • Sam Shoup – bass
  • Dr. Michael Shults – saxophone
  • Dr. David Spencer – trumpet/flugelhorn
  • Mike Assad – drums
  • Alvie Givhan- piano
