ABOUT THE BOOK:

“I am proud that this wonderful book took root in a well-received lecture series at the six-thousand member Christ Methodist Church where I served as senior minister for twelve fruitful years and remain minister at large. If the reaction to the lectures series is any guide, this book will reach a large audience fatigued with the message that science somehow conflicts with faith. I may not fully understand the science, but I can surely agree with this book’s proposal: Scripture and science provide complimentary revelations of God.”–Maxie D. Dunnam, United Methodist Church minister, evangelist, Bible commentator and writer

If you review of the impulses that created the universe, directed the unfolding of life, and empowered human consciousness you reach an undeniable conclusion: an omnipotent Creator supervised the unfolding of our universe. From the moment of creation to the emergence of a planet tailor-made for life, from the journey of multi-million species to the development of an upright creature hungry for God, science tells a sacred story: a superintelligent Creator used His mathematical genius to convert lifeless equations into galaxies, planets, and people. His love has been visible throughout the process. Could our journey reflect thousands of random accidents with no divine guidance? Creation delivered impulses that filled the universe with galaxies and stars. Eliminate any one of those blueprints and the universe would have been stillborn. Stars produced a perfect mix of elements to bring the universe to life. Without a robust ensemble of gene and protein sequences, life might still be living at the bottom of the sea. Hundreds of human genes convert the neurons of a human infant into trillions of networks in an adult brain. Without those God-given genes, a dangerous world may have left us trapped in the treetops with no interest in science at all. But God shared His mind and triggered the emergence of human consciousness. Where do we find ourselves after centuries of that scientific searching? We see that science reflets its source. Science is a gift of God’s creative love, and is nothing less than sacred!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Dr. William West, a Harvard and Johns Hopkins-trained oncologist and researcher, has advanced cancer care and research for over three decades. As a Christian and lifelong member of one of the largest Methodist Churches in the U.S., he has lectured for more than forty years on the myth of science and faith being at odds, believing they support one another and that science reveals God. A Memphis native, Dr. West founded the West Clinic in 1979, growing it from a single practice into a network of five locations with 25 physicians and 273 support staff, treating 300 to 400 patients weekly. Inspired by his mother’s breast cancer battle during his Harvard Medical School years, Dr. West trained at Johns Hopkins and the National Cancer Institute before returning to Memphis with his wife, Carole, to provide top-tier oncology care. He served as principal investigator of the pivotal study approving the first immunotherapy drug for cancer and pioneered the use of peripheral blood stem cells to reduce the risks and costs of intensive chemotherapy. His research, including a New England Journal of Medicine publication, led to a groundbreaking kidney cancer drug he helped bring to market. In the late 1980s, Dr. West founded Response Oncology to develop cancer treatment protocols. He retired from the West Clinic in 1989 to establish a national Stem Cell Centers network, improving bone marrow transplant outcomes for 10% of U.S. community cancer specialists. Recently, he has served in Uganda, chaired the campaign for Dorothy’s Place Alzheimer’s Day Care Facility, and focused on preventing heart disease and cancer. His first book, Sacred Science: Understanding Divine Creation, releases April 11, 2025, from Post Hill Press.
