Ballet Memphis Presents: A Midsummer Night’s Dream featuring In Dreams
BALLET MEMPHIS’ NEW SEASON GROWS WITH A DOUBLE-WEEKEND NUTCRACKER, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, AND MORE “DREAM”-THEMED PERFORMANCES
Ballet Memphis’ signature Nutcracker production is returning to the Orpheum Theatre for two weekends this December
MEMPHIS, TN—Ballet Memphis is pleased to announce its 37th season with a lineup of “dream”-themed performances across genres and venues beginning this October.
“The overarching theme of our season is dreams,” says Ballet Memphis Artistic Director Steven McMahon. “Each production will explore the concept of dreaming through storytelling, imagination and the fantastical nature of dreams themselves.”
Ballet Memphis will stage a collection of new works and fan favorites throughout the year, including the always anticipated and long-cherished holiday tradition The Nutcracker, which introduces two weekends of performances December 10-11 and 15-17 at the Orpheum Theatre. An enchanting evolution of set and costume design will bring a renewed energy to this classic performance.
“We are proud to bring an updated production of The Nutcracker to the stage,” says President and CEO, Gretchen Wollert McLennon. “Our audiences will be delighted with our vibrant and joyful reimagining of this holiday tradition, while still experiencing the warm and familiar elements we hold dear. Much like the season itself, this new production is in many ways a dream come true.”
“We love that Ballet Memphis continues to perform annually on our main stage, and the caliber continues to climb,” said Brett Batterson, President & CEO of the Orpheum Theatre Group. “To introduce three additional performances of The Nutcracker as well as the return of the highly anticipated Student Matinee performances is very exciting for all of us. It’s going to be a magical holiday season at the Orpheum.”
Ballet Memphis’ Season 37 lineup is as follows:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream featuring In Dreams: October 13-15 at Ballet Memphis
The Nutcracker: December 9-10, 15-17 at Orpheum Theatre
Winter Mix: February 23-25 at Playhouse on the Square
American Roots: April 19-21 at Crosstown Theater
“Dreams and ballet have been natural partners since the beginning of the art form,” continues McMahon. “We’re excited to bring our audiences into these dreams throughout the Ballet Memphis season.”
