Black and white cutout artwork by Patty Daigle depicts a group of people walking together, some carrying children and bags, against a plain white background—an evocative snapshot of navigating knowledge through shared journeys.

Art and Aperitifs: Navigating Knowledge with Patty Daigle and Nelson G

Step into the world of Navigating Knowledge with curator Patty Daigle and exhibiting artist Nelson Gutierrez during this exclusive evening at Memphis’ art museum. The exhibition uses vessels and navigation as rich metaphors for the movement and containment of knowledge—from ancient philosophies to scientific theories, religious teachings, and global histories. Featuring powerful works by Nelson Gutierrez, Rashid Johnson, Joyce Kozloff, Harmonia Rosales, and Ben Shahn, the show journeys from the 1960s to today, charting intellectual and cultural migrations.

Following the guided viewing, guests are invited to enjoy specialty aperitifs and a lively discussion with Patty and Nelson. It’s an immersive evening where art meets ideas—brought to you by your art museum.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Navigating Knowledge. https://www.brooksmuseum.org/exhibitions/navigating-knowledge
