AMY LAUREN MILLER & MAGGIE RUSSELL AT NOVEL: BLUE BRUCE THE CHRISTMAS SPRUCE
Join us as we welcome AMY LAUREN MILLER & MAGGIE RUSSELL on Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 PM to celebrate the release of BLUE BRUCE THE CHRISTMAS SPRUCE.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Told in verse about a small, unwanted tree on a Christmas tree farm, this story is about becoming who we are meant to be. It’s about learning that we may not have control or choice about timing or other circumstances, but we do have control over how we navigate those circumstances, over our attitude and gratitude on our way to becoming. It’s about being open to a future that may look a little different than what we envisioned.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Amy Lauren Miller has been writing creatively since – well, since she could write! From a young age, Lauren began creating poetry and song lyrics. Building on this natural form of self-expression, she has used her affinity for writing as an outlet for her varied observations and interests. After a career in College Admission Counseling and a l5 year hiatus to stay home while raising her son, she is now taking the next step and sharing her work on a larger scale. Lauren writes stories for children which highlight overcoming challenges and celebrating our distinctive (and sometimes quirky) characteristics. Her poems and essays are inspired by her life experiences and center mainly on love or the disruption if it. Lauren is married to her patiently steadfast husband and is blessed to be mother to their inspiring son. Together they have built their life in West Tennessee with two loyal, goofy dogs and one unruly, domineering cat. Lauren’s debut children’s book, Blue Bruce the Christmas Spruce, is a collaboration with Memphis based artist Maggie Russell.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:
Maggie Russell lives in Memphis, TN with her husband Jake and Dog Isaac. She holds a BA from Hendrix College and an MFA from The Memphis College of Art. Russell works as a portrait artist and also as a professor at Southwest Community College. Her portraiture can be found in private and public collections and a handful of publications. Most recently, Russell illustrated Memphis’ Wildsam Field Guide. As a self-identified late bloomer, she is pleased to help bring Bruce’s story to life.
