A Vivid, Magic, Scene: Kathy Zhou’s Spooky Season Tour Homecoming w/ Halko no Hana

Memphis-based pianist and singer-songwriter Kathy Zhou releases her debut EP, A Vivid, Magic, Scene, with a full-band concert at Bar DKDC, with Haley Ivey opening. This show is the final, homecoming stop of Kathy’s first tour (spanning Chicago, New York, Montréal, Canada, and Toronto,Canada).

Kathy Zhou is a genre-bending piano-powered songwriter whose signature sound combines her piano virtuosity with imaginative folk lyrics and a hauntingly whimsical voice. Her mesmerizing style and presence captivate audiences, inviting an atmosphere of avant-garde magic and prompting heartfelt reflection and discussion. Painting an emotional arc buffered by a dreamlike stream of consciousness, each piece keeps audiences on their toes with unique twists and unexpected turns. In 2023, Kathy’s music video to her single, “Strange Child,” was a finalist in the international Indie Memphis Film Festival. In 2024, her performance of the song placed in the regional semifinals of the TN Songwriters Week competition. In 2025, Kathy released her second single “Storm Eulogy.” Kathy’s EP, “A Vivid, Magic, Scene” is a collection of songs about processing the past and coming to terms with the present, drawing on nature/fantasy themes.

Halko no Hana (Haley Ivey) is a terrifyingly raw, vulnerable, and expressive performer drawing from her experiences in classical music, folk-punk, and hard-hitting banshee screams from her metal-punk bands Little Baby Tendencies and Snörkler. The subjects of her writing play on both spiritual and glaringly pointed themes ranging from environmentalism, mental health, unrequited loving, to musical protest in the pursuit of Ultimate Love. Guitar, piano, flute, or just plain caterwauling – she presents her deeply felt emotions about the state of the world and its people through any means necessary. She has found herself on the cover of the Memphis Flyer within just a year, and travels the continent to spread her message frequently and passionately. She has released two albums and two EPs this year through her favorite means – punk rock.
