A taste of Memphis and the tales that bring us together.

A Bite of Memphis: The Tastes and Tales That Tie Us Together

LoneTree Live, a Memphis Production Company, delivers a distinct theater experience centered around Memphis’s food culture with “A Bite of Memphis.” This production intertwines authentic narratives from some of the city’s culinary favorites into a compelling and tightly-knit story.

The monologues stem from real-life interviews with a mix of local chefs, home cooks, clergy, and passionate food enthusiasts, including Gage Collins as The Rev. Paul McLain from Calvary Church, Jordon Douglas as Branon Mason, the Head Chef at Ciao Bella, Blake Shirley as Dan Kopera from Second Line, Nic Harris as Derravia Rich, the founder of Black Seeds Urban Farm, Eliana Mabe from Project Green Fork, among many others.

These stories are presented on stage exactly as they were shared, offering a rich and poignant glimpse into the city’s food traditions and the community bonds they nurture. A map detailing the Memphis locations mentioned in the show is provided for reference.

Directed by the talented Nathan Markiewicz from Austin, TX, “A Bite of Memphis” epitomizes the city’s signature mix of tradition and innovation through documentary theater. Its engaging storytelling showcases the city’s essence and spirit, as articulated by Julia Hinson, founder and producer of LoneTree Live. She emphasizes the production’s aim to celebrate the city’s soul through a collective love for food, inviting the audience to indulge in the flavors, traditions, and stories that symbolize Memphis’s rich culinary heritage.

The opening night promises a grand celebration, featuring live music by The Hectics and a festive reception filled with exquisite Memphis-inspired cuisine and drinks from Ciao Bella and other local gems. Performances are scheduled for every Friday at 7:30pm, Saturday at 7:30pm, and Sunday at 2:00pm, from February 16 through March 3, at Evergreen Theatre.
