Elvis’ Birthday Extravaganza: January 7th-10th

Elvis’ birthday celebrations are approaching! Four days will be packed with various activities aimed at honoring the King. Starting on January 7th and going through the 10th, the annual celebration will be filled with breathtaking festivities.

On Wednesday, January 7th, an exclusive event for Official Graceland Insiders will take place from 6:00pm till 9:00pm in the Graceland Plaza. You can purchase tickets through Graceland for 49$. Norbert Putman, former Elvis studio bass musician, and David Briggs, Elvis studio pianist, will be signing autographs during this exclusive event.

On Thursday, January 8th, at 9:30am the birthday cake will be cut and a declaration of Elvis Presley Day will occur. Priscilla Presley will be making an appearance during proclamation ceremony. Admission is FREE along with birthday cake and coffee on the house for visitors at the Chrome Grille in Graceland Plaza at 10:30am. At 1:00pm on Thursday, you can hear from people close to Elvis alongside special guest Peter Guralnick, a rock historian and author. Both Norbert Putman and David Briggs will attend along with one of Elvis’ friends, Karate champion Bill “Superfoot” Wallace. This will be held at the Holiday Inn Memphis Airport Hotel and Conference Center. Tickets cost 20$.

At 8:00pm-12:00am the Elvis dance party will get started. Also taking place at the Holiday Inn Memphis, this party will consist of all the Elvis songs you love. DJ Argo from Elvis Radio and SiriusXM will be manning the spinning table. Tickets for this cost 25$.

On Friday, January 9th, the day starts with the Fan Club Presidents’ Event at 10:00am-12:00pm in the Holiday Inn. You can celebrate the work of the Elvis Presley Fan Clubs and see special guests including Dixie Locke Emmons, who dated Elvis right as his surge to fame began, and two of Elvis’ childhood friends from Tupelo Guy Harris and Sam Bell. Tickets can be bought for 15$.

Later that Friday, there will be a double feature screening of Jailhouse Rock and Viva Las Vegas at 7:00pm at the Orpheum Theatre. Tickets cost 20$ and you can buy them here.

And Saturday, January 10th, at 1:00pm, you can hop on board the Backbeat Tours to see the places where Elvis spent his life. The Hound Dog tour adds to the incredible sightseeing experience by including an on-board concert to honor the King, while viewing the important city and sites that shaped Elvis Presley’s career. On Saturday night, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra will perform a tribute to the King at the Cannon Center. Starting at 7:30pm, the orchestra will play all of the ever loved Elvis hits.
