Discovering your values, engaging with leaders, and climbing a 30-foot wall have one thing in common: Latino Memphis.
The organization dedicated to serve, engage, and connect Latinos in Memphis is offering a Leadership Summit for young professionals at this year’s Congreso. The 2nd Annual Congreso is a series of workshops ranging from arts to health care that will educate fellow Memphians on the needs and issues of the Latino community. The workshops are geared to connect educators, arts and cultural organizations, service providers, and strategic partners. However, what about the emerging young professionals?
Latino Memphis has partnered with Choose901, New Memphis Institute, Leadership Memphis and other local experts to host a dynamic two-day professional development program. This program is designed to equip young professionals with the skills, knowledge, and tools needed to become leaders in their career and in the 901.
- When: Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 29 – 30
- Where: Fogelman Center / Holiday Inn at University of Memphis
- Cost: $350
To facilitate full immersion in the topics and discussion, the Leadership Summit accommodates its fellows with an overnight stay at the Fogelman Executive and Conference Center & Hotel. In those two days Leadership Summit fellows will have to opportunity to rediscover their life’s purpose and how they are a key component to the success of Memphis. Following the Socratic philosophy, the first day is about knowing thyself. Through establishing their core values, engaging in conversations on what it takes to be an effective leader, and how to persevere when faced with roadblocks, the fellows will reach a plethora of “aha” moments by the end of the day.
The fun does not stop there! A trip to BRIDGES will challenge team building skills by rock climbing, walking across a high ropes course, and playing strategy games that highlight leadership and goals. After a thought-provoking fun filled day, participants will enjoy a night out Latin style with great food, conversations, and Latin music.
The final day of the summit is about connection. Young professionals will join over 500 local civic and business leaders at the Leadership Luncheon. This won’t be your typical luncheon, so prepare to expect the unexpected! The Luncheon features a keynote address from Clarissa Martinez-De- Castro, Deputy Vice President at National Council of la Raza, a free-style soccer performance, a Hip Hop Salsa fusion performance in collaboration with New Ballet Ensemble and Salsa Memphis, and a live Mariachi. Plus, three Latino Memphis Abriendo Puertas students, in collaboration with Crosstown Arts and story booth youth writing programs, will present a powerful spoken word performance, which expresses a united voice that is often unheard. Also, Choose901, New Memphis Institute, and Leadership Memphis will present opportunities on how to connect to the Memphis community. Latino Memphis and Daniel Connolly from the Commercial Appeal will facilitate discussions about the current state of Latinos in Memphis.
The Leadership Luncheon will provide a unique opportunity for the fellows to engage with Memphis leaders who are making a difference across all sectors. Enter to win a pair of tickets to the Luncheon below! You do not have to be a young professional or be attending the leadership summit to win the tickets.
