Out of thousands of educators across the country, Mr. Boyland is one of just ten selected for this incredible honor. Now it’s up to US—his students, his city, his community—to help him take home the Grand Prize:

About Mr. Ty Boyland
With over three decades in the music industry as a producer, songwriter, and mixing engineer, his work has landed on Netflix, MTV, BET, PBS, FOX, and more. He’s collaborated with everyone from STAX Music Academy to the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation, and even snagged a regional Emmy nomination in 2024 for his engineering work on “I Hope Like Hell We Get This Grant.”
But his biggest impact is right here in Memphis—teaching, mentoring, and empowering youth to turn their creative passions into real-world skills.
Through innovative programs like Soul Soil (music meets indoor farming), and powerful projects like Coming Back (a student-led anthem addressing gun violence), Ty Boyland is shaping the next generation of Memphis.
