Now Open in Downtown Memphis: Catherine & Mary’s

Catherine & Mary’s is the latest culinary endeavor by chefs Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman who have also brought us Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, Hog & Hominy, and Porcellino’s Craft Butcher.

My husband and I recently had the chance to check out this restaurant a few days after it opened for dinner, in the bottom floor of the newly renovated Chisca on Main.

The menu is presented in the traditional style of Italy consisting of spuntini (snacks), antipasti (appetizers and salads), primi (pasta dishes), and secundi (meat dishes).

We decided to try the Ramacche, Rigatoni, and the Scarpinocc. The Ramacche was a delicious snack that came out crispy and hot with a smooth blend of meat and cheese inside.

Our two pasta dishes were good choices for our appetites and tastes. The Rigatoni had plenty of meatballs and the Scarpinocc was a brand new food experience for me that was made of mushrooms, garlic, fonduta, lemon, brown butter, and parmesan frico. I highly suggest trying them both.

After our pasta dishes we were pretty full but still wanted to try something from the dessert menu (my weakness) so we decided on the Pignoccata, which I had never had before, along with two cappuccinos. The Pignoccata is like the Italian version of beignets, with an orange glaze. The portion size is large and could easily be split among 3 or 4 people. I was also happy to see the coffee is provided by local roastery French Truck.

Next time we go, we will try some of the other meat dishes and a cocktail or two. They also have local beer on draft.

Overall the prices are reasonable and this restaurant is a great addition to Downtown Memphis. I can see this restaurant as a romantic dinner spot before seeing a show at the Orpheum or a nightcap afterwards. We were seated within minutes since it was still pretty early in the evening, but they do take reservations.

For now Catherine and Mary’s is open from 4pm-close at 272 S. Main Street, right next Lyfe Kitchen. They have a happy hour from 4pm-6pm at the bar with snacks and drink specials. A lunch menu will be coming in the future.

You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
