Joining a book club is one of the best ways to meet likeminded individuals, get exposure to new ideas, share your thoughts, and make friends. Check out our list of local book clubs in Memphis that vary depending on topics, members, and more.

A Novel Book Club takes place every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7pm. Their monthly picks will encompass a wide variety of genres, interests, and reading styles, with book club members involved in choosing future selections.

14 of the Library’s locations have active book clubs that each have different meeting times, topics, and audiences. Go here for a full list of dates, times, and contacts who can give you more information about joining and the books that are currently being read.

The Wolfchase Barnes & Noble location hosts Book Lovers’ Book Club, Morning Coffee Readers, and Whodunit Mystery Book Club with various meeting dates and times. For more information on upcoming events, go here.

The WKNO Book Club chooses a new book each month to read, meet about, and discuss. For more information on joining, as well as current and upcoming selections, email or visit their website here.

Muddy’s Book Club meets about every 2 months and is open to everyone. They gather to discuss various books with a general theme of leadership and inspiration. 

OUTMemphis hosts a monthly Meristem Women’s Book Club where membership is open to women (LBT and straight-identified) in the Memphis area who want to read and discuss books by women and LGBT authors. For more information on the books chosen or to join, email

Memphis Freethought Alliance hosts several bookclubs each month, with some based in East Memphis and some in Cordova. Their selection process is detailed here, and they welcome book suggestions. The group is composed of atheists, agnostics, skeptics, non-theistic naturalists, secular humanists and others who share their vision.

Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region hosts a Feminist Book Club that meets monthly at various locations around the city and discusses the book of the month. Members are encouraged to buy each book from AmazonSmile in order to benefit Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region with each purchase.

A collaboration between Christian Brothers University, the Memphis Public Library & Information Center, Rhodes College, Southwest Tennessee Community College, Facing History and Ourselves, the City of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College, and the University of Memphis, Memphis Reads chooses one book annually for the entire community to read and analyze. The culminating events brings the author in to present and answer questions.

Two Rivers Book Club is a monthly Sci-Fi & Fantasy focused book club, meeting at Two Rivers Bookstore in Cooper-Young.

Get Lit meets every third Thursday of the month at Ghost River Brewing Co’s taproom. Interested readers will be able to purchase the book of the month at Novel Memphis with a 10% discount.
