Though we’ve enjoyed warm weather for several weeks now, spring’s official arrival means it’s time to get outside. Memphis is becoming more bike-friendly every day, with 55 miles of bike lanes being added to city streets. Here are some ways to enjoy Memphis on two wheels:
Shelby Farms Greenline
The Greenline connects Shelby Farms Park to Midtown. The seven-mile trail has several access points where you can hop on and ride: it’s great not only for recreational riding, but for commuting too. Find out more here.
Meets the first Saturday of every month, at 8p.m. at the Cooper-Young gazebo. If you want to meet fellow cyclists and feel safer on the road thanks to the power of numbers, this ride is for you. The next ride is April 14. Join Cycle Memphis on Facebook for more info.
Tour de Grizz
This isn’t your average group ride. On April 7, the fourth annual Tour de Grizz took off from the Memphis Zoo. From there bikers headed to FedExForum and watched the Grizzlies take on the Dallas Mavericks (and won!). The cost was $55 and included a club level ticket to the game and a souvenir. You have to be 21 to participate in this five-mile ride.
Memphis’ hardcourt Bike Polo League
Gathers at Bluff City Sports Wednesdays and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. They welcome all skill levels, but it’s cool to watch even if you’re not coordinated enough to participate.
