The Big River Crossing was just recognized internationally!
The Big River Crossing, a key piece of the Memphis renaissance, was awarded the top honor in the 2017 Excellence in Design Awards from the Waterfront Center. Based in Washington D.C., the Center focuses on assisting communities across the globe in making the best decisions regarding waterfront planning, development, and culture.
The awards specifically recognize projects that truly make a positive mark in the lives of the city’s citizens by providing enjoyable, environmental, and educational contributions to the area. Past winners include the Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston, TX, the Baltimore Water Wheel in Baltimore, MD, and the Wuxi Grand Canal in China, so it is no small feat for the Big River Crossing to earn such recognition.
Part of Memphis’ “Main to Main” project set to help unify Memphis and West Memphis, future upgrades of the Big River Crossing include a 1,700 acre park on the Arkansas side as well as a biking/hiking trail along the levees. Be sure to check it out next time you’re downtown.
