At Bevo Boys Fitness Academy, the punches weren’t the only things flying during their recent event, The Cornerman: Kids and Dads in the Ring. The gym inside Hickory Ridge Mall was buzzing with laughter, high-fives, and heart—a day designed not just for fun, but for forging powerful connections between kids and their mentors.
More than 60 young people stepped into the ring to learn boxing basics and to build confidence, form new friendships, and share unforgettable moments with their fathers and father figures. The joy was contagious, from the gleam in their eyes during games to the proud smiles as medals were draped around their necks.
But the impact didn’t stop at the ropes.
This event was a testament to Bevo Boys’ mission: keeping at-risk youth off the streets by providing a safe haven where they can grow stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally. It was a win-win for the community, sparking new connections with organizations across Memphis and laying the groundwork for future partnerships aimed at empowering more youth across the 901.
🥊 Boxing Plus Mentoring, Every Week
Bevo Boys is a consistent force in the lives of Memphis youth. Open Monday through Thursday from 2–6PM, the Boxing Plus Mentoring program combines structured training with mentorship to teach emotional discipline, boost self-confidence, and guide students toward a brighter future.
From punches and footwork to life lessons and leadership, Coach Kenny Cole and his team are showing up, gloves on and hearts open, ready to shape the next generation of champions.
