Baby Shower Plate: Bringing the Joy of Celebration to Everyday Life in Memphis

For many, baby showers are about the food. The plates stacked with sweet and savory favorites, the comforting flavors that bring people together, and the nostalgia that lingers long after the party ends. But what if you could have those flavors anytime, without waiting for a special occasion? That’s exactly what Shaveda Robbins, owner of Baby Shower Plate, set out to do when she launched her business in Memphis.

From Passion to Plate

“I’m Shaveda Robbins, the owner of Baby Shower Plate. I moved to Memphis almost two years ago after leaving Mississippi State University, and I’ve always had a passion for good food and bringing people together,” she shares.

Shaveda grew up in a community where baby showers were full-blown celebrations with signature foods everyone looked forward to. But there was one problem:

“Unless you know someone having a baby, you don’t get to enjoy those plates often,” she says.

That’s what inspired her to start Baby Shower Plate. A way to bring that same energy, nostalgia, and flavor to everyday life. The concept quickly took off because people instantly connected with it.

A delightful baby shower plate features pasta salad, deviled eggs, baked beans, nachos with cheese, fried chicken, and garlic bread. In the background sits a small cup of meatballs.

The Perfect Home for Baby Shower Plate

“When I moved here almost two years ago, I saw firsthand how Memphis embraces new business ideas, especially in the food scene. That motivated me to turn Baby Shower Plate into something real because there wasn’t a restaurant offering this style of food. I knew it would stand out, and Memphis gave me the push to go for it.”

Beyond inspiration, Memphis also influenced her approach to customer service. A visit to Uncle Goyo’s Mexican Restaurant left a lasting impression on her.

“The fast, friendly, and welcoming service there made me realize how important customer experience is. That’s something I want Baby Shower Plate to be known for—quick service, great food, and a warm, inviting atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.”

The Flavors That Hit Every Time

“I’ve been attending baby showers since I was 11 years old, and no matter whose event it was, the food was always the highlight for me,” Shaveda explains.

From meatballs to Rotel dip, her menu is built around dishes that guests always rush to grab first. “If it’s a dish that has people making a to-go plate before they even finish their first one, it belongs on the menu.”

For Shaveda, staying true to these flavors is just as important as keeping them exciting.

“Baby shower food has a nostalgic, comforting taste that I don’t want to change, so I stick to time-tested recipes and fresh ingredients to keep that authenticity. At the same time, I like to add little touches that make the food even better—whether it’s perfecting the seasoning, ensuring consistency, or presenting it in a way that feels special.”

Making an Impact—One Plate at a Time

For Shaveda, some of the most rewarding moments have come from seeing how far people will go for Baby Shower Plate.

“One of the most memorable moments for me was when a customer drove all the way from Nashville with her cousins just to try my food. At the time, I was only a month and a half into my business, so that completely blew my mind,” she recalls.

Not only did they love the food, but they also placed a catering order for the summer. Moments like that remind her why she started this journey—to bring people together over food that feels special.

The Challenges & The Motivation to Keep Going

Launching Baby Shower Plate wasn’t without challenges. The biggest? Keeping up with demand.

“This business took off so fast, and I had to adjust just as quickly—all while navigating an industry I had never been in before. Going viral was a blessing, but it also meant figuring things out in real time, from scaling operations to making sure every plate met the high expectations people had.”

What keeps her going? The reactions after that first bite.

“Seeing people light up when they taste the food, hearing them say, ‘Oh yeah, this is it,’ reminds me why I started. Memphis has embraced Baby Shower Plate in a way I never imagined, and that support pushes me to keep growing and giving people the experience they love.”

What’s Next for Baby Shower Plate?

With so much momentum behind Baby Shower Plate, Shaveda isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

  • Secret Menu Saturdays: New menu items will be introduced exclusively on Saturdays, keeping things fun and exciting for customers.
  • The Kickback with Kutta Kustomz: A weekly custom shoe class featuring different themes, art, and, of course, food catered by Baby Shower Plate. “Because what’s better than kicks, food, and art?”
  • A Taste of Memphis Plate: A potential collaboration with multiple local restaurants to create a plate that brings together different flavors representing the city.

Shaveda is always looking for ways to grow and bring new experiences to the table. “I can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes Baby Shower Plate!”
