A TASTE OF MEMPHIS, 11 Years of Celebrating Our Neighborhoods

If you’ve never been to A Taste of Memphis, you might think it’s just a food festival. Truth is, this annual neighborhood engagement celebrates history, food, fun, and much more!

On September 11, the 11th annual A Taste of Memphis takes over Tiger Lane. This year’s theme, “Yes to Community! Strengthening our neighborhoods one block at a time,” captures the heart of this event—bringing people together, giving organizations a space to connect with the public, and letting neighbors network with neighbors.

It’s a place where Memphians from all walks of life can see what’s going on across the city. Health providers, community development groups, schools, arts organizations—you name it—come together every year to share their work.

This is way more than a resource fair. You’ll find live performances, food trucks, neighborhood and art contests, and plenty of Memphis 901 pride. It’s a one-of-a-kind chance to feel what Memphis is really all about.

“This is the event where we give all our neighborhood organizations one table, two chairs, and four hours just to celebrate their greatness,”

When the first Taste of Memphis rolled out in 2014, the goal was simple: give neighborhood associations and community groups a chance to connect and learn from each other.

“We may not live next door to each other, but we’re still neighbors. I come here to brag on my neighborhood, but also to learn from others and see what they’re doing right.,

There’s also a friendly “booth contest,” where groups go all out to show off their neighborhoods. Last year’s winner, Klondike-Smokey City CDC, wowed the crowd with a booth celebrating their 125-year history—no small feat, especially with over 100 organizations in the mix.

With each year, the event keeps growing. Last year, the Overton Park Shell’s “Shell on Wheels” joined in for the first time, bringing an awesome stage for local performers to shine. And the food truck lineup? Bigger and better every year, with plenty of local favorites serving up good eats.

A Taste of Memphis is where community, creativity, and good food all meet.
