A World-Class Talent Coming to the 901

Hailed by Gramophone for her “superb musicianship, masterly technique and programming savvy,” Archer is one of the most celebrated organists of our time. Her performances are known for their emotional depth, historical insight, and sheer technical brilliance — qualities that have taken her from packed Ukrainian churches to grand Russian concert halls.

Her upcoming Memphis program bridges cultures, presenting rarely performed works from 19th- through 21st-century Russian and Ukrainian composers. This is the latest in Archer’s decade-long mission to champion Eastern European organ music, a commitment made even more poignant in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

“The organ music contributions from both countries have been enormous, and human culture and civilization would be far poorer without them. I hope this will be kept in mind particularly in this period of conflict and crisis.”

Why It Matters Now

Memphis has always been a crossroads of music, culture, and history, and this event connects our city to a global story. Just as we take pride in our blues, soul, and rock ’n’ roll roots, Concert for Peace reminds us that music has the power to transcend political divides, honor heritage, and inspire unity.

Archer’s personal ties to both nations run deep. Since 2011, she has performed annually in Eastern Europe, later earning a faculty position at Columbia University’s Harriman Institute for her work spotlighting the region’s music. She speaks passionately of Ukrainian audiences as “proud and cultivated people…whose intellectual rigor and audacious creativity” are matched only by their resilience.
