5 ways to celebrate Memphis all month long through volunteering

September in Memphis always starts with 901 Day – a day to show pride in our city, our neighborhoods, and our people 🌆

But why stop there? You can celebrate all month long by rolling up your sleeves and volunteering 🤲 Here are four upcoming events that let you give back, connect with neighbors, and experience Memphis in a whole new way.

Resume Building @ the Hub

Wednesdays in September | 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

As a resume-building volunteer at the Hub, you’ll work one-on-one with guests to help them prepare professional resumes. Each person leaves with several printed copies and a boost of confidence. This is a perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to use their skills to create lasting impact.

Spay/Neuter Clinic Volunteer

Tuesdays through Fridays in September | Multiple Shifts Available

Behind-the-scenes service is just as important as front-and-center. At Spay Memphis, volunteers assist with laundry, prepping supplies, and keeping the clinic running smoothly. While you won’t be working directly with animals, your contribution is crucial to ensuring pets receive the care they need.

Canvas for a Cause: UrbanArt Commission Art Show Fundraiser

Friday, September 12 to Saturday, September 13 | Multiple Shifts Available

UrbanArt Commission’s Canvas for a Cause is a celebration of creativity across Memphis. Volunteers will help run the event where hundreds of canvases created by local artists, children, and community members are exhibited together. Your efforts support workshops, exhibitions, and programs that give Memphis artists opportunities to shine.

Shell Yeah! featuring Big K.R.I.T.

Thursday, September 18 | Multiple Shifts Available

Love live music? The Overton Park Shell’s Shell Yeah! series needs volunteers to greet guests, sell merch, collect donations, and gather audience feedback. For this one-night-only concert featuring Big K.R.I.T., you’ll be part of the team that makes the night unforgettable. Bonus: you’ll enjoy fresh air, great music, and the knowledge that your service keeps concerts free and accessible to the whole community.

Volunteer Gym Clean-Up

Saturday, September 27 | 5 to 8 p.m.

The Rox community gym needs a little TLC, and volunteers can make it shine. From scrubbing floors to organizing equipment, this deep clean will keep the space safe and inviting for everyone who uses it. Whether you can stay for the full shift or just part of it, your contribution will go a long way – and if you can bring supplies, even better!

901 Day might be just one day, but the spirit of service lasts all month – and all year. Ⓜ️ Volunteering is one of the best ways to celebrate Memphis, strengthen our neighborhoods, and invest in the city we all love.
